Notes from NEARIMeet 8 October 2021

NEARI held their Autumn NEARIMeet on the 8th of October alongside our colleagues in the Collaborative Action Research Network (CARN) at the CARNival 2021 Conference.

The theme of the NEARIMeet was Raising Voices: Making Connections and as always, the meeting opened with an acknowledgment of the NEARI Ethical Statement. It was chaired with a deft and gentle hand by Cornelia Connolly.

The guest speaker for the event was the world-renowned  Dr. Hilary Bradbury of AR+ . We were delighted to have Hilary join us at this special meeting. Her explanation of Action Research Transformations (ART) inspired everyone as she interwove personal stories to show how she generates knowledge for action in a meaningful, practical way.

Hilary concluded her inspiring session by encouraging everyone to explore how their action research might encourage transformation.

Our second presentation was from Aislinn Kennedy, a primary school teacher from Dublin. She talked about her own Master’s research in her practice. She took the theme of raising voices to a new level as she explored how she encouraged her pupils to develop strategies to address anxiety and develop emotional literacy as they explored the use of their voices.

The final presentation of the day was from Jane O’Connell, who shared her understanding of the intricacies of the final stages of a PhD. She outlined the decisions she had to make around how she presented her data and the integrity she brought to ensuring that her conclusions were fair and appropriate.
